Galleywood won the toss over at South Weald and elected to bowl. The opening batters started watchfully for South Weald building a 51-run partnership, in 13 overs but Adams made the breakthrough as square leg was picked out. Galleywood used this to try and turn the game in their favour and Adams and Felton were the bowlers to do this for them grabbing 3 wickets in 3 overs before drinks, at which South Weald were 92/4 after 22 overs. By the time Adams’ had completed his spell, he was able to remove four of the South Weald top 5. M Cockrell replaced him and resumed the wicket taking in his first over with 2 in 2 balls. Mark Palmer for South Weald put some handy additional runs on the board for them with a 20 batting at 9 but M Cockrell was in the wickets again, with 2 in 4 balls this time leaving South Weald 150 all out from 38.4 overs. Top scorer was Keylock with 34 in 53 deliveries. Adams finished 4 for 30 and M Cockrell 4 for 12 from only 5.4 overs.
Galleywood knew that a sensible batting innings was required to chase the total at just under 3.5 an over. The openers were unable to see off the new ball with skipper Pye taking the first wicket of A Cockrell caught at the wicket for 10. 20/1 became 38/2 as Nurcombe was spectacularly caught by Haddock at second slip, leaping to his right and plucking the ball out the air; He’d made 20 runs. A further 10 was added before Reeve was trapped LBW by Palmer for 13. Skipper Rayner joined Adams at the crease with the score 48/3 and this would be the end of the wicket taking for South Weald on the day, as the pair built steadily and waited for the bad balls to punish and made sure they ran well between the wickets. It was a match winning partnership of 103* in 111 balls to give Galleywood the win! Adams was 45* in 74 balls and Rayner made a fantastic half century ending 57* from 51 with 8 fours and 2 sixes! Pat Stroud was the pick of the South Weald bowlers with figures of 8-5-21-1.
