About

Established in 1931, Galleywood Cricket Club on the outskirts of Chelmsford, Essex has provided cricket playing opportunities to many over the years and we are proud to have expanded our Cricket for All offering in recent years with expansion of our thriving Youth Section and with the introduction of Women & Girls cricket in 2019.

Galleywood’s Youth section caters for youngsters from 5 - 16 years of age through National cricket programmes such as All Stars (5-8yo),Dynamos for Girls (8-11yo) complementing our own Age Group training and teams for U9s to U15s. In recent years, we are really proud of the number of Youth players who have graduated into adult cricket and form the backbone of all our senior teams alongside more senior members who can help guide the development of the younger players.

The club is extremely proud of the Women & Girls section established toward the end of 2019 and which offers a pathway into social softball cricket or competitve hard ball matches.

Galleywood Cricket Club has held full ECB (England & Wales Cricket Board) Clubmark accreditation since 2012. ECB Clubmark is an accreditation scheme for cricket clubs which shows that a club is sustainable, well run and provides the right environment for its members. It also means our club is recognised as a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place for participants of all ages, as well as assuring parents and carers that they are choosing the right option for their children.

Our links with local schools and the community; and providing coaching and training facilities for youngsters, are evidence that social responsibility is taken seriously by the club.

On the pitch – Galleywood’s ambition is to develop the best teams that we can, but not at a win at all costs mentality but by encouraging players to be the best they can be and facilitating opportunities for players to develop whatever their skill level and ability. In 2012 we ran two Saturday teams, one Sunday team and three age group teams. We now run three Saturday and one Sunday league sides plus Saturday and Sunday Development teams which focus on bridging the gap between Youth and Senior cricket. In addition, we will be running Youth teams at U9, U10, U11, U13 and U15 age groups as well as expanding the Women & Girls teams. We also have a longer-term aspiration to develop disability cricket.

Off the pitch - to build upon the history of our club and the great work undertaken by our loyal volunteers, developing stronger community links and local partnerships, with a view to expanding our offering of "Cricket for All", for future generations to join, support and enjoy for many, many years to come.
