1s vs Woodham Mortimer - 13th August Match Report

13 Aug 2022

Galleywood travelled to Pheasant Park today in what was dubbed the Snap Sponsorship derby! Galleywood winning the toss and, of course, electing to bat.

What followed was a topsy-turvy game with the pendulum swinging to Galleywood then to Woodham throughout the day. Mortimer were on the board second ball as Brace was caught in the gully. Cockrell and Adams were dealing in boundaries hitting 3 a-piece before Cockrell tried one too many and was bowled. What followed as a 68-run partnership between Adams and McIntyre in 126 deliveries where Woodham took the upper hand thanks to some tight and economical bowling from Glasson and Tripathi. After McIntyre was caught behind for 32, Adams carried on the scoring with Rayner, and it was Adams next to go for 60 in 99 deliveries including 13 fours. At 125/4 after 32.5, Galleywood needed to up the rate. Nurcombe came and went for a run a ball 10 and Rayner batted on well for a 38 in 30 balls with 7 fours, but the star of the show was Josh Felton who, coming in at 35.4 over and 144/5 on the board, added 62 runs in only 33 deliveries hitting 10 fours and 1 six in the process. It was a fantastic display of controlled hitting, finding the gaps and utilising the fast outfield! This accelerated Galleywood to finish on 235/7 from their 45 overs. Pick of Woodham’s bowlers must be Tripathi who finished with 9 overs 5 maidens 1 wicket for 21 runs.

That pendulum swung again when Woodham took 28 runs from the first 3 overs. The breakthrough came in the fourth as Clayden had Cook caught at slip. Glasson carried on the free scoring piling on an innings top score of 63 in only 53 balls with 10 fours and 1 six. Platt ensured he was hard to get out in his 22 from 52 and Galleywood were struggling to find an answer by first drinks break. On a day that seems everything went right for Felton, it was him that broke the partnership and bowled Platt in the 18th over. It was the same bowler that removed Glasson in the 24th over and Galleywood had started taking control of the match. Regular bowling changes the order of the day in 35-degree heat, and Storey was bowling from the 19th over to give Woodham a new threat. Ultimately that proved very difficult to answer as 2 wickets in the 27th over (rounding off 3 wickets in 5 balls for the team) from Storey turned the game decisively to Galleywood’s favour. Storey bowled excellently for his 4-21 in 7.1 overs and guided Galleywood to an 80-run victory!
