Galleywood arrived at a sunny Paradise Road and a beauty of a track. Writtle won the toss and unsurprisingly elected to bat.
The opening strike for Galleywood came at the end of the second over when M. Cockrell bowled Patel for 4. Galleywood kept up a tight opening bowling spell in the most part but when the ball beat the in-field you’d invariably get 4 for it. By the end of the 10th over it was 29/2 with Writtle’s Sam Adams adjudged LBW. The third wicket was only 9 runs further ahead and M Cockrell had all 3. Patient was staying at the crease for Writtle and being able to keep the scoreboard ticking over and enjoyed an innings high partnership of 60 with Thorpe-Apps until this was broken by Felton when he removed Patient for 65 runs from 114 balls including 9 fours. Writtle applied the accelerator after this adding 56 for the 6th wicket in just 5 overs. Only 1 further wicket was to fall and Writtle had made 193/7 in their 45 overs. Best bowling for Galleywood was Cockrell’s 3-38 with 2 maidens.
After tea, Reeve and Jacobs opened up, and moved along nicely in the first eleven overs, moving the score to 41 but Jacobs was the first to fall as he was run out for 14. This brings Galleywood’s Sam Adams to the crease and what followed was a brilliant show of batting waiting for the boundary balls and duly putting them away and also running well between the wickets providing minimal chances to Writtle. Galleywood had bought the 100 total up in the 24th over and the chase was on rate. It would take Writtle until the 38th over to get their next wicket, as they had Reeve out stumped for an excellent 74 from 113 balls with 11 fours. Galleywood’s Sam Adams was still at the crease and still adding to his score and he passed 50 too by this time. That would be the last of the Writtle wickets with an unbroken 29 partnership saw Galleywood home at 197/2. Galleywood’s Sam Adams ended on a fantastic 83* from 94 deliveries with 11 fours ably assisted by McFaull’s 14* from only 7 deliveries including 3 fours. Best bowling for Writtle was Farooq with 0-17 from his 9 overs!
Galleywood win by 8 wickets!
