To open our division 2 campaign, Galleywood travelled over to Church Road to take on Hatfield Peverel. The home side won the toss and elected to bat. Galleywood broke through immediately, after 4 balls with Hicks trapping Moore LBW. After this point, a long partnership ensued between Hills and Clark, both reaching their 50s. Galleywood had chances during this time but weren’t able to take their catches allowing the two batsman to ride their luck and settle in for long innings. Graham Storey was able to take both their wickets but the damage had already been done. One further wicket from Storey was all Galleywood could manage as Peverel reached 221/4 after their 45 overs. Top scorer was Hills on 69 and Storey finished with 3-55 from his 9 overs.
After the break, Galleywoods first wicket fell on the tenth ball with Marlow being bowled. Galleywoods middle order were all able to play themselves in and look set, most notably with a 50 partnership between Rayner and Day in just 48 balls, but Peverel were blue to take wickets at vital times leaving Galleywood at 89/5. Adams and Felton were able to contribute double figures of runs to the cause but Galleywood were left 120/7 with the tail facing a tough task to salvage a victory. Galleywood were all out in 33.4 overs having put 133 on the board. Top scorer for Galleywood was Day with 30 in 33 balls and Zubair Ahmad ended with bowling figures of 3-27 from his 10 overs.
Hatfield Peverel start the season with an 88 run win.
