Finally, a sunny day, and a full game of cricket ahead of us. Galleywood travelled to Belfair’s Park to play Eastwood. Galleywood won the toss and elected to field, on a green wicket and long outfield.
Galleywood applied early pressure with the ball, bowling good lines and not allowing the Eastwood batsman to get a start. 4th ball of the match sees Hicks bowl Hill for 1. Clayden removed Huckstepp in his 3rd over with only 10 on the board. The next 6 overs added 8 to the score while Cousens was building an innings at one end. By the time drinks arrived, Galleywood were happy to have restricted the Eastwood run scoring to just 37. A direct hit from J. Adams bought the 4th wicket after a communication mix up. This bought Deeming to the crease and that bought about the highest partnership of the match, as Galleywood struggled in the middle to keep the score as low as possible. That partnership was worth 71 from the 21 overs. Galleywood broke through again with Felton taking 2 wickets in 2 balls, and Howe had a late flourish of 13 runs to leave Eastwood ending their innings on 148 all out. Deeming ended on 61 while the pick of the Galleywood bowlers was Hicks with 3-26 from his 9.3.
After tea, J. Adams and Brace set about chasing the total down and Brace was the first wicket to go with just 15 on the board. The Adams brothers then put on 36 together for the second wicket before James was out for 20. Sam dug in for 30 runs in 58 balls to but Galleywood in a promising position. Sturton and Rayner again got starts putting 19 and 11 on the board respectively but couldn’t go on, and left Galleywood at 85-4. Swann and Felton both got in to the 20’s but time was running out for Galleywood to reach the total, and a tight finish was in store. 13 runs was needed in 12 balls but Deeming and Singh just did enough at the death, notwithstanding the 5 no balls on 43.6, to stop Galleywood getting the runs they needed, and the stumping of Cockrell on the final ball confirmed the narrow win for Eastwood in a thrilling finish.
