Brookweald vs Galleywood 1st XI - 24th April Friendly Match Report

24 Apr 2021
It was a warm and sunny start to the season, with the 1st XI making the journey to Brookweald for their friendly. Galleywood won the toss and elected to field.

The first wicket of the season fell to Sam Adams with just 12 on the board. 2nd and 3rd wicket fell in quick succession with the score at 61. The sun was shining on a lovely Brookweald ground but the main bulk of the runs came during a 5th wicket partnership of 112! Wolfe and Crane getting scores of 55 and 66 respectively, to help guide Brookweald to 234/9 from the 40 overs.

Galleywood's response saw wickets fall in fairly regular intervals, with openers Marlow and Brace removed for 7 and 5, Day and Rayner got starts with 14 and 21, but they were back in the pavillion with the score at 57/5. Adams and Felton too the fight to Brookweald with a partnership of 58 as they started to find the gaps in the field. Adams would go on to make a brilliant 90* as the tail managed 10 runs between the 4 batsman. This meant the 1st XI were 200 all out and lost by 34 runs.

Cobwebs blown away, or rather baked away today in the warm sunshine! Long may this continue as the 1st XI look forward to a T Rippon Division 2 campaign, which gets underway with a trip to Hatfield Peveral.
