Cricket Week 2023 - Ladies XI vs Shenfield

23 Aug 2023
Cricket Week 2023 started with a bang as the Ladies XI welcomed Shenfield to Slades Lane. It was an evenly matched contest with the visitors taking the win by only 29 runs.
Couple of Galleywood highlights included a wicket maiden from Poppy Murrison on her way to excellent figures of 3 overs, 1 maiden, 1 wicket for 7 runs! Also, Laura Pietersen retired not out with the bat for a brilliant 25* from 36 balls including 2 fours in an opening stand of 57 with Lily Priest.

Match Report from Ladies captain Alice Langley;
A great start to cricket week last night as Galleywood ladies narrowly lost to Shenfield ladies in a 20/20 match.
Fielding first Shenfield flew out of the blocks posting 76 without loss in their first 10 overs.
Galleywood regained their composure and limited Shenfield to 137-2 with Wickets from debutant Poppy Murrison and Captain Alice Langley.
Cheered on by a fantastic crowd Galleywood started their reply in great fashion with the opening pair of Lily Priest and Laura Pietersen adding 57 before Lily was cruelly judged LBW by umpire Jack Moss. Rumour is that Lily’s mum Lisa will no longer be supplying her famous pies to the Moss family!
Sarah Foot then joined Laura at the crease and continued to apply pressure on Shenfield in the dimming light. An inspiring batting effort from Laura had her retiring on 25 as per friendly rules. In only her second hardball game it was a fantastic achievement that had the Galleywood faithful in raptures.
As the light continued to fade Galleywood reached 100 but eventually fell 29 runs short. The complete scorecard is here: https://galleywoodcc.play-cricket.com/website/results/6045365
Captain Alice Langley would like to send a special thank you to Alan Dunsdon for photographing the game, Nick Clayden for scoring, Jack Moss and Nick Jacobs for umpiring and all of the fans for their incredible encouragement and support.
The evening was capped off with some food and drink in the bar and a bit of JB’s dancing. Roll on the rest of Cricket week!
