Mel Perry RIP

23 Jan 2025

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Melvyn Perry, a valued member of Galleywood Cricket Club for over 70 years. Our thoughts and sympathy goes out to his wife Carole, son Raef, daughter Michelle and family. Melvyn can be seen third from the left on the back row.in the team photo below third from the left on the back row.

Club President George Mawby commented;

Mel joined the club in 1954 while still at school and soon became the first team wicket keeper/batter and represented Essex School Boys. He married Carole, the sister of another Galleywood legend all rounder, Alan Francis, who also sadly passed away last year. He became club captain in 1974 and was the inspiration for later club captains such as Mick Brown, myself and Paul Marlow. Mel continued to play well into his 50s until an injury forced him to stop playing. He became an Honorary Life Member and today is Vice-President of the club. He was often seen on Saturdays walking the dog and pausing for the afternoon at Slades Lane watching the team and eyeing up the quality of the current Galleywood players. Rest In Peace Mel, our thoughts are with you
