Finally, a weekend filled with beautiful weather as Galleywood Sunday 2nd XI travelled to Gt. Baddow for a local derby to start the Warsop Sunday League. After winning the toss, Galleywood elected to bat first on a scorcher of a wicket.
Jacobs H and Thurnell opened the batting to some very accurate bowling from the Gt. Baddow openers not letting many runs get away and with Thurnell falling in the 7th over to a very good ball from Agrawal, Galleywood were 16-1 after 10 overs. Boddu joined Jacobs as they steadily built the innings with some good running between the wickets. Jacobs fell for well-made 20 in the 24th over with the score now 62-2 having put on a solid 56 run partnership with Boddu. Smith H then made his way to the crease and immediately got after the bowling. Boddu and Smith both reached 50 and retired in the 35th and 36th overs. Cerson and Felton then continued the charge with some quick running and Felton hitting a 4 and Cerson hitting a 6 in consecutive overs. Cerson and Felton each finished 13 not out with Galleywood 179-2 after 40 overs. Boddu and Smith top scored each with 50 and Baxter D was the pick of the Gt. Baddow bowlers with 1-14 from 4 overs.
Gt. Baddow also opened with a couple of youngsters with Jutushar and Bellim A striding out to face some very good opening bowling from Jacobs H and Smith O. Smith O claimed the first wicket with a nice ball that took the edge of Jutushar’s bat and taken down low by Cerson with the gloves with the score 25-1 after 10 overs. Boddu and Thurnell then took over the bowling with some very accurate lines leading the batsmen having to push for extra runs with Bellim A run out by a fantastic throw from Wicks J for 14. The runs were hard to come by for Gt. Baddow with Boddu and Thurnell each picking up maidens and the pressure eventually got too much with Agrawal P edging the ball onto Cerson who eventually caught it after juggling the ball for 5 with the score now 45-3 after 20 overs. Felton and Smith H continued the great bowling with 4 wickets for Felton and 1 wicket for Smith in the space of 6 overs leaving Gt. Baddow 70-8 after 30 overs. Brown and Wicks J then finished off the innings but not before Thurnell run out Agrawal C with a direct hit in the 36th over. Gt. Baddow finished 109-9 off their 40 overs with Austin top scoring with 28 not out and Felton taking 4-11 off 5 overs.
Galleywood win by 70 runs!
