Weekend Review 12/13 Aug (part 3)

18 Aug 2023

The Sunday NECL 1st XI travelled to the picturesque Eight Ash Green looking to maintain their long standing unbeaten run in the division.
The hosts batted first but early Galleywood wickets saw them slump to 18-4 before their struggles continued as they reached 50-8 at drinks at 20 overs. Despite some lower order runs making the total more respectable, the home team had been totally dominated as they were bowled out for 109 inside 38 overs.
A great performance in the field had seen wickets for Saj (3-23), Duncan Walton (3-26), Josh Felton (2-12) and John Wicks (2-12) who had been on a hat-trick. Jack Moss had taken two sharp catches in the slips and captain Paul Sturton two in the field.
With Galleywood looking to get the job done as quickly as possible, Dave Wicks (25) & Matthew Howard (36) gave them the perfect start with a 79 run opening partnership. The loss of a couple of wickets briefly stalled the inevitable before Josh Felton struck a rapid 21* off just a handful of deliveries, finally finishing things off with his second giant 6 of the afternoon.
It was a comprehensive victory for the visitors and leaves them full of confidence going into their last match of the season against local rivals Chelmsford.
