Weekend Round Up 5th-6th Aug

8 Aug 2023

Thanks to the sterling efforts of the club’s volunteer ground crew, Sunday’s game was given the all clear to go ahead following Saturday’s total wash out.
Batting first against Billericay Rugby Club, Galleywood had a positive start with 114 runs off the bat contributed from the top 3 batsmen including Jack Good (55*) and Harry Jacobs (42). Once these had departed however, the visitors began to dominate with the ball as the remaining lower order were restricted to 30 runs between them as Galleywood finished on 179.

In reply a steady 42 from opening bat Crossman gave the visitors a confident start before the arrival of Fisher at the crease swung things in their favour. His brutal and rapid 51* included five 4s & three 6s and put Billericay firmly back on track.
After he had bowled just two overs, club legend John Barritt was forced from the field of play with a foot injury, much to his own disappointment and that of the gathered crowd that had turned out to see him perform. Fortunately, a pint of Doombar, a packet of cheese and onion crisps and a 2-1 win for his beloved Ipswich Town FC soon saw him in better spirits.
Despite some fine bowling from the in form Duncan Walton (3-19), the 179 ultimately proved 20-30 runs short as Billericay surpassed the total with an over to spare.

Next Sunday sees the return to NECL action as we travel to Eight Ash Green.
