Galleywood CC Development Plan

1 Club Background

Mission statement

To provide access to cricket and related social activities throughout the village and surrounding communities, regardless of ability, age, race, colour, creed or gender in line with the objectives of the club.

Aims & Objectives

Aim 1: Harness and develop all cricketers so they have the opportunity to contribute to the game of cricket at all levels and play a central role in club cricket life

GCC during 2012 was awarded the ECB ‘Club Mark’ Status. We will:

  • Develop and increase the coaching structure at the club so all ages and abilities will have access and opportunity to develop their skills
  • To define and develop the club culture to make sure we continue to participate within the laws and ‘spirit of the game’
  • Continue to develop the facilities available at the club to encourage greater membership and participation from family and friends of current and new members
  • Continue to develop our club processes in accordance with ECB Clubmark Standards.

Aim 2. Develop and strengthen a structure and pathway for women and girls to actively participate in and follow cricket

We provide cricket opportunities for all with girls and woman being encouraged to take part in cricket and play in mixed cricket as age rules allow. If numbers permit, a girls’ youth team will be established. However, where numbers do not permit then it is incumbent upon the Club to ensure that girls are given the opportunity to continue their cricket developments either in a mixed group or at other clubs who do have sufficient numbers to run girls’ cricket teams.

We will continue to liaise with our existing Level 2 coach from Essex County Cricket Board whose initiatives focus on introducing girls to cricket.

Aim 3: Develop and strengthen the whole club environment, promoting cricketing opportunities for disabled people

We provide cricket opportunities for all. The club shall encourage members with learning and or physical disabilities and in conjunction with Aim 1 provide development for all irrespective of ability and opportunities to play competitive matches. One of the main objectives of the club selection committee is to make sure competitive cricket is available to all playing members and no one is neglected due to disability.

Aim 4: Develop and promote cricket for black and ethnic minorities

We provide cricket opportunities for all. The club currently has members of both Asian and Caribbean ethnic origin.

Aim 5: Ensure that our cricket club is an integral part of the local community, contributing an invaluable service to all sections of the local community, developing club members, supporters and volunteers

  3. Increase the number of coaches and their qualifications to meet growing demands of the club and its membership

Note Immediate priority for 2014 is to increase the management and coaching set up for each of the youth teams. This will include developing the management structure around each team to have an allocated coach, team administrator manager (looking after availability and match notification through Teamer, a non playing parent as team manager and a current U18 youth player as assistant coach. We will also encourage the youth (16–18yo) members to take the first step on the new coaching path being created through ECB in 2014.

  1. To establish the Club as one of the central recreational, meeting and vocational venues in the village community. We work closely with the Parish Council to improve coaching equipment and facilities available at the club.

Note The club pavilion has been completely refurbished since 2010, new roof; new storage garages and security shutters have been completed and the work is being finalised with new hard standing pathways being created and solar panels being installed. 2013 saw new furniture procured for the bar area.
